FORT MCKAY NEW TOWN

planningAlliance and rePlan were jointly commissioned by a consortium comprising the Fort McKay First Nation and a major private land developer to prepare conceptual land use plans and servicing and transportation layouts for a new community of up to 25,000 people along the Athabasca River, an hour north of Fort McMurray, the regional capital of Wood Buffalo, Alberta.

The intent is to provide long-term housing – comprising a variety of designs and tenures – and a full range of commercial, social and recreational facilities for the growing local oil-worker population. In turn, the development of the new town site will provide employment and increased social and economic opportunities for the local First Nation community.
