HAMILTON GATEWAYS

The most familiar image of Hamilton is the highly industrialized west end of the Harbour, as seen from the Queen Elizabeth Way and Burlington Skyway. In 2004, in a desire to present a more positive image of the city to its citizens and visitors, the City of Hamilton embarked on a process to develop gateway features at key points of entry to the City.

Under this initiative, planningAlliance designed a series of Civic Gateways that both serve as a unifying element and express local character. The gateway designs use the actual name of “Hamilton” and its constituent communities, and are made of materials that reflect Hamilton’s industrial heritage.
