Arviat Climate Change
planningAlliance, representing the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), is working with Community & Government Services on behalf of the Government of Nunavut to develop a climate change adaptation plan in partnership with the Hamlet of Arviat. Project partners also include Natural Resources Canada and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. A Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan will help the community to understand how climate change may affect life in Arviat.
As a result of this process, the community will work together to identify how to respond to these changes in order to minimize any negative impacts and take advantage of any opportunities that may arise. Project objectives include identifying how climate change will affect the community, based on community input, traditional knowledge and scientific data, considering sea level change, hydrology/water supply, permafrost and social/natural and economic factors, and developing an action plan to respond to these potential impacts.
