
Jason Thorne
Jason is a Principal with rePlan and affiliated firms planningAlliance and regionalArchitects, and has close to 15 years of experience in community-based planning and stakeholder and public engagement processes. Jason leads the firm’s practice area in Regional Planning and has served as Project Director on many of our significant resource-based regional planning projects in Ontario, Western Canada and West Africa. This includes regional plans for the Athabasca and Cold Lake Oil Sands Areas of northern Alberta and northern Ontario in Canada. He is currently leading preparation of a Regional Development Plan for the first operating gold mine in Senegal, working on the ground with community, industry, non-government and government stakeholders to map out a shared development vision and implementation plan for the region surrounding the mine.
Prior to joining rePlan, Jason worked in regional planning for the Ontario government. As Manager for the Ontario Growth Secretariat, Jason was one of the key architects of the growth plan for Canada’s rapidly developing Greater Golden Horseshoe region. A recipient of several national and international awards, this plan is now regarded as the new standard for regional planning. As Director of Transportation Policy and Planning for the government agency Metrolinx, Jason then led the development of The Big Move, Ontario’s first-ever multi-modal 25-year regional transportation plan for the area around the City of Toronto. He is a Contributing Editor of the Ontario Planning Journal and a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners Policy Advisory Committee, and is a frequent speaker and lecturer.
